Previously known as La Excelencia, and best known as the “New Generation of Salsa Dura,” this nine-person salsa ensemble was a crowd favorite at Global Fest 2010, and brings modern vitality and social consciousness to the salsa genre. “La Excelencia represents something very significant, a return not just to the classic formula of salsa but to the virtues of it,” says Aaron Levinson, a Grammy-winning producer. “They are going back to the more eclectic period when salsa was street music, playing with spirit and integrity and writing socially relevant music again.” The band won Best Latin Artist in the 2010 UK Salsa Awards.
Orquesta Salsa con Conciencia “SCC” formerly known as La Excelencia, is ‘The New Generation of Salsa Dura, and brings modern vitality and social consciousness to the salsa genre, taking their bold sounds to salsa dancers and fans around the world. In 2000, Jose Vazquez-Cofresi moved to New York and quickly signed a deal to record a salsa CD, only to see that project shelved as the reggaetón boom accelerated. In 2005, with Johnny Pacheco as a music consultant, Vazquez-Cofresi formed La Excelencia. La Excelencia has successfully created a revolutionary movement for salsa music.
